Our volunteer roles will be updated on a bi monthly basis. Please apply within the deadline set for each application round. Our volunteer roles are during office hours only unless specified otherwise.

Finance Assistant Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability  2 days per week

We have an exciting new volunteer opportunity to assist our Finance team at our head office.  The role will involve assisting the Director of Finance with audit preparation and reviwing and maintaing the rent ledgers. It will also involve suppporting our Finance staff with data entry on our purchase ledger and other areas as required. This role will be suitable for a AAT or ACCA student or anyone who is qualified in this area. Students who have availability for 4 days or full time basis will also be considered, even if availability is only for a month or so.

Children & Family Worker Assistant Volunteer

Location London Borough of  Camden

Availability Minimum 1 day per week

Our generic Camden Refuge Services are recruiting new volunteers to support their team. The C & F volunteer assistant will be supporting the day to day running of the children’s service. This may include: Supporting women to attend appointments, Draw up activity timetables, Running groups, Keep records of all activities and Making contact with women via telephone. Experience of working with children is required. Experience of running groups for women/children is essential. The candidate must be proactive, flexible, good IT skills, have a Friendly & cheerful approach.

Play Worker Volunteer

Location London Borough of Camden

Availability Flexible

A new opportunity within our generic Camden Refuges to volunteer as a Play Worker. The Play Wroker volunteer will provide support in running group sessions for families/children in the refuge, including arts and crafts, dance and movement, outings and discussion groups. The role will involve assisting in planning, delivering and evaluating sessions and supporting parents in playing and interacting with their children. Level 2/3 in childcare is required. You must have experience workign in a play room.

Advice Line Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability Minimum 2 day per week

Our Advice service is currently recruiting for 10 Advice Line volunteers. Working as part of the Advice team you will be taking calls and providing immediate advice and support to women on all issues relating to domestic and sexual violence, ensuring their safety and providing them with options. You will receive training that will you help develop the skills needed to deliver an excellent level of service to clients. This role requires strong communication skills and an excellent telephone manner. Please note the recruitment and selection process will be over 2-3 days through different activities including role-plays, case studies, group work and questionnaires.

Refuge Support Worker Volunteer

Location London Borough of Lambeth

Availability 2 -3 days per week

Lambeth Refuge Service are recruiting 4 volunteers to support their team. We are looking for approachable volunteers with good interpersonal skills, self-motivated and able to carry out tasks unsupervised, flexible and interested in Domestic and Sexual Violence and it’s impact on women and children. This is an extremely varied role, helping with the day to day running of the refuge and supporting women and children affected by Domestic and Sexual Violence. This position is a unique opportunity to gain experience of supporting women and children. You will be based at one of our two Refuges in Lambeth.

Counselling Service Admin Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability Minimum 2 days a week

This is an ideal role for someone looking to gain experience in administration within a counselling service context. The role will involve taking and confirming referrals from other agencies and other services internally, as well as working on a range of admin tasks including collating information, data entry in different secure systems, data collection, typing and formatting documents, logging messages, as well as other tasks as and when required. The role will be primarily desk based and we are looking for someone with good attention to detail.

IT Assistant Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability Minimum 1 day per week

We are looking for a volunteer to assist our IT & Facilities coordinator. The candidate must have knowledge and understanding of remote desktop services, office applications, online databases, local network administration and IT equipment (photocopiers, laptops, computers, tablets). The volunteer will be assisting with the day to day running and support of the IT services within the organisation at our head office. The role will involve preparing the IT facilities in the boardroom for meetings, admin Solace cloud account users, BT telephony and mobile accounts and to ensure all lists/accounts are up-to-date. The candidate must have good verbal, written and problem solving skills.

Play Worker Volunteer

Location London Borough of  Enfield

Availability Times and dates TBC

An exciting new role as a volunteer play worker. The ideal candidate will be working in partnership with the sessional play workers in the planning, delivery and evaluation of play session across the two refuges. Play sessions are child centred and offer a place for children, away from the busy refuge environment. Sessional play workers deliver a wide range of activities attended by children of different ages and stages. Experience working with children who have experienced difficult life experiences and loss is essential. A formal qualification in working with children, young people and families is required.

Wrap Group Facilitator

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability Flexible(recruiting for July onwards)

Exciting opportunity to deliver groups to women who have experienced domestic/sexual abuse.  The content of the groups is flexible and is dependent on what skills the volunteer can bring. This can include singing workshops, yoga, meditation, message therapy, reiki, beauty treatments, knitting, sewing, art and relaxation.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to speak clearly and empathetically to service users. Knowledge of domestic/sexual abuse and possible impacts of this on women and their children is required along with safeguarding procedures. Where appropriate the volunteer must have the qualifications for the group sessions they would like to carry out.

Enfield Sass Volunteer

Location London Borough of Enfield

Availability  Minimum 2 days per week

A role to support our Enfield SASS team and in particular the Enfield IRIS Service. The role with include identifying services to meet service users’ needs. To help organise and deliver workshops and service user focus groups. To contact service users, for example informing them about support groups and completing exit questionnaire and surveys. The role will also include accompanying clients to appointments as and when appropriate. To undertake administration duties.  Admin experience is required along with good communication skills.

Sessional Group Volunteer

Location London Borough of  Camden

Availability Running 3-9 sessions per year – All sessions run during term time on a Tuesday or Friday morning.

An exciting new role opportunity in our Camden Holistic Therapeutic Support Service. Do you have a skill or talent that you would love to share with female survivors of domestic abuse? We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to run interesting sessions at our Women’s Voices Workshops.  We particularly welcome applications from survivors of domestic abuse. The content of our groups is flexible and range from creative skills, performance, writing, health & wellbeing. The idea candidate must have the appropriate qualifications & training.  We are interested to hear your suggestions for our groups. Knowledge of domestic/sexual abuse and the possible impacts on women and children is required.

Volunteer Coordinator Assistant Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability 1-2 days per week

This is an exicting varied role within our Volunteer Service.  The role will include database support such as data entry, supporting the recruitment process of volunteers by responding to volunteer queries, collating application forms, organising interviews and providing feedback. The role will include assisting with our newsletter, organising volunteer social events, attending external events/meeting and supporting the training sessions. The right candidate must know how to multitask, work independently and be a proficient  in Microsoft Packages. A great role to learn about the different services Solace provides, as you will be liaising with the different teams.

Ascent Counselling & North London Rape Crisis Counselling Roles

We actively recruit qualified counsellors and counsellors in their final year of training to work with us providing emotional support to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse/violence.

Volunteer Counsellor (Qualified)

Location: London Boroughs of (Enfield, Greenwich, Southwark, Barnet, Lambeth & Islington)
Availability: Minimum of 1-2 days a week

An opportunity is available to volunteer within the Ascent counselling service. We are looking for qualified counsellors who can provide specialist counselling to women aged 16 years and over who have experienced domestic and/or sexual abuse. Applications from bi-lingual counsellors are also warmly welcomed.  A typical commitment of 12 months is required. You will have access to a range of in-house training and support including clinical supervision. You will need to have completed a minimum of 150 supervised client hours before you can be considered for this role.

Volunteer Group Supporter

Location Various locations across London

Availability 1 – 2  mornings per week (based on a 8 week group programme, running 3 times a year, per borough)

An exciting opportunity is available to volunteer within the Ascent counselling service helping to support a new group run for women affected by domestic and/or sexual violence. This role is suitable for volunteers who can demonstrate experience of running or supporting groups.  An understanding of domestic and sexual violence and it’s impact on women is helpful.

NLRC Honorary Counsellor

Location: London Borough of Islington
Availability: 1 x Daytime Role, 2 x Evening Roles

North London Rape Crisis offers counselling across 7 boroughs for women 13 years and over who have experienced any form of sexual violence whether it is recent or ‘non-recent’. We are pleased to be offering a number of counselling placements for female counselling/psychotherapy trainees wanting to specialise in trauma and sexual violence within a supportive counselling service which works from a Humanistic/Relational approach. It is essential that you have a qualification or working towards a qualification in counselling / psychotherapy with at least 150 supervised client hours within the BACP/ UKCP framework. An understanding of working with trauma and excellent communication skills are essential.

NLRC Honorary Group Counsellors

Location: London Borough of Islington
Availability:

  • Creative Therapeutic Group Counsellor (Mondays, 1:30-3pm)
  • 1 Therapeutic Group Counsellor (Tuesdays, 10-12pm)
  • 1 x Counsellor for Lesbian and Bisexual women’s  support group  (2nd & 4th Wednesday, 6-7:30pm)

A great opportunity to become apart of the NLRC Counselling service as a Group Counsellor. You will assist the main group facilitator with group facilitation. It is essential that you are qualified or working towards a qualification in individual or group counselling/psychotherapy with at least 100 supervised client hours within the BACP/ UKCP framework. An understanding of group facilitation is important. An understanding of working with trauma is required. An excellent understanding of the issues faced by lesbian, bisexual and trans women survivors of sexual abuse for the LBT group.

Volunteer Recruitment Process

 

The recruitment and induction process explains the steps every volunteer must follow before they are able to commence their volunteering with Solace. This is to ensure you are properly inducted in to your role so you feel confident and are able to deliver a quality service to service users and for the purposes of safer recruitment of volunteers.

  1. Complete application and monitoring form and email to volunteering@solacewomensaid.org
  2. Your application will be shortlisted by the project/service – this can take a few weeks
  3. If successful you will be invited to an informal interview
  4. If successful we will apply for two references for you – every volunteer needs two satisfactory references before they can start volunteering
  5. You complete an enhanced DBS (if required for the role)
  6. You attend a central volunteer induction (3 hours long)
  7. You attend a site induction – can be one session or a training course
  8. You start volunteering!
