Our volunteer roles will be updated on a bi monthly basis. Please apply within the deadline set for each application round.

Please note that our volunteer opportunities are open to women only (exempt under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1), and that these volunteer roles are exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974 and subject to enhanced DBS checks.

NLRC Administration Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability 1 day per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work closely with our counselling service administrative team at North London Rape Crisis. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain experience in administration within our busy counselling service. The role will involve a range of administration tasks including collating information, data entry in different secure systems, data collection, typing and formatting documents, photocopying, organizing efficient filing systems, logging messages, as well as other general administrative tasks as and when required. We are looking for someone with excellent attention to detail and a genuine interest in contributing to help improve women’s lives. Good written communication skills.

Enfield Sass Volunteer

Location London Borough of Enfield

Availability  Minimum 2 days per week

A role to support our Enfield SASS team and in particular the Enfield IRIS Service. The role with include identifying services to meet service users’ needs. To help organise and deliver workshops and service user focus groups. To contact service users, for example informing them about support groups and completing exit questionnaire and surveys. The role will also include accompanying clients to appointments as and when appropriate. To undertake administration duties.  Admin experience is required along with good communication skills.

Counselling Service Admin Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability Minimum 2 days a week

This is an ideal role for someone looking to gain further experience in administration within a counselling service context. The role will involve taking and confirming referrals from other agencies and other services internally, as well as working on a range of admin tasks including collating information, data entry in different secure systems, data collection, typing and formatting documents, logging messages, as well as other tasks as and when required. The role will be primarily desk based and we are looking for someone with good attention to detail. The idea candidate must have some administration skills.

Play Worker Volunteer

Location London Borough of Camden

Availability Flexible

An opportunity within our generic Camden Refuges to volunteer as a Play Worker. The Play Wroker volunteer will provide support in running group sessions for families/children in the refuge, including arts and crafts, dance and movement, outings and discussion groups. The role will involve assisting in planning, delivering and evaluating sessions and supporting parents in playing and interacting with their children. Level 2/3 in childcare is required. You must have experience workign in a play room.

Play Worker Volunteer

Location London Borough of  Enfield

An exciting role as a volunteer play worker. The ideal candidate will be working in partnership with the sessional play workers in the planning, delivery and evaluation of play session across the two refuges. Play sessions are child centred and offer a place for children, away from the busy refuge environment. Sessional play workers deliver a wide range of activities attended by children of different ages and stages. Experience working with children who have experienced difficult life experiences and loss is essential. A formal qualification in working with children, young people and families is required.

Play Worker Volunteer

Location London Borough of  Haringey

Availability Flexible

A new role in Haringey as a volunteer play worker. This role is really varied. To provide trauma based Play activities under supervision from the Family Support Worker. The activities are with children of mothers who are resident in the three refuges in Haringey. The volunteer will provide support in running group sessions for families/children in the refuge, including arts and crafts, dance and movement, outings and discussion groups. A health and social care qualification or an relevant qualification is reqiuired for this role.

Volunteer Coordinator Assistant Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability 1-2 days per week

This is an exicting varied role within our Volunteer Service.  The role will include database support such as data entry, supporting the recruitment process of volunteers by responding to volunteer queries, collating application forms, organising interviews and providing feedback. The role will include assisting with our newsletter, organising volunteer social events, attending external events/meeting and supporting the training sessions. The right candidate must know how to multitask, work independently and be a proficient  in Microsoft Packages. A great role to learn about the different services Solace provides, as you will be liaising with the different teams.

Immigration Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability Minimum 1 day per week

We are looking for a volunteer to assist our immigration solicitor and carry on legal casework, provide immigration advice to our service users around their rights and options. The candidate must have a minimum of OISC level 1 accreditation or be training to do the OISC level 1 exam. Minimum experience in immigration/asylum law and has a genuine interest passion for immigration and women’s rights. The ideal candidate will be drafting letters, liaising with service users and professionals on behalf of service users, gather evidence, prepare casefiles to be submitted to Home Office.  The ability to work towards deadlines and handle pressure are required. Excellent communication skills.

IT Assistant Volunteer

Location London Borough of Islington

Availability Minimum 1 day per week

We are looking for a volunteer to assist our IT & Facilities coordinator. The candidate must have knowledge and understanding of remote desktop services, office applications, online databases, local network administration and IT equipment (photocopiers, laptops, computers, tablets). The volunteer will be assisting with the day to day running and support of the IT services within the organisation at our head office. The role will involve preparing the IT facilities in the boardroom for meetings, admin Solace cloud account users, BT telephony and mobile accounts and to ensure all lists/accounts are up-to-date. The candidate must have good verbal, written and problem solving skills.

Ascent Counselling & North London Rape Crisis Counselling Roles

We actively recruit qualified counsellors and counsellors in their final year of training to work with us providing emotional support to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse/violence.

Volunteer Counsellor (Qualified)

Location: London Boroughs of (Enfield, Greenwich, Southwark, Barnet, Lambeth & Islington)
Availability: Minimum of 1-2 days a week

An opportunity is available to volunteer within the Ascent counselling service. We are looking for qualified counsellors who can provide specialist counselling to women aged 16 years and over who have experienced domestic and/or sexual abuse. Applications from bi-lingual counsellors are also warmly welcomed.  A typical commitment of 12 months is required. You will have access to a range of in-house training and support including clinical supervision. You will need to have completed a minimum of 150 supervised client hours before you can be considered for this role.

 

NLRC Honorary Counsellor

Location: London Borough of Islington
Availability: 1 x Daytime Role, 2 x Evening Roles

North London Rape Crisis offers counselling across 7 boroughs for women 13 years and over who have experienced any form of sexual violence whether it is recent or ‘non-recent’. We are pleased to be offering a number of counselling placements for female counselling/psychotherapy trainees wanting to specialise in trauma and sexual violence within a supportive counselling service which works from a Humanistic/Relational approach. It is essential that you have a qualification or working towards a qualification in counselling / psychotherapy with at least 150 supervised client hours within the BACP/ UKCP framework. An understanding of working with trauma and excellent communication skills are essential.

NLRC Honorary Group Counsellors

Location: London Borough of Islington
Availability:

  • Creative Therapeutic Group Counsellor (Mondays, 1:30-3pm)
  • 1 Therapeutic Group Counsellor (Tuesdays, 10-12pm)
  • 1 x Counsellor for Lesbian and Bisexual women’s  support group  (2nd & 4th Wednesday, 6-7:30pm)

A great opportunity to become apart of the NLRC Counselling service as a Group Counsellor. You will assist the main group facilitator with group facilitation. It is essential that you are qualified or working towards a qualification in individual or group counselling/psychotherapy with at least 100 supervised client hours within the BACP/ UKCP framework. An understanding of group facilitation is important. An understanding of working with trauma is required. An excellent understanding of the issues faced by lesbian, bisexual and trans women survivors of sexual abuse for the LBT group.

Volunteer Recruitment Process

 

The recruitment and induction process explains the steps every volunteer must follow before they are able to commence their volunteering with Solace. This is to ensure you are properly inducted in to your role so you feel confident and are able to deliver a quality service to service users and for the purposes of safer recruitment of volunteers.

  1. Complete application and monitoring form and email to volunteering@solacewomensaid.org
  2. Your application will be shortlisted by the project/service – this can take a few weeks
  3. If successful you will be invited to an informal interview
  4. If successful we will apply for two references for you – every volunteer needs two satisfactory references before they can start volunteering
  5. You complete an enhanced DBS (if required for the role)
  6. You attend a central volunteer induction (3 hours long)
  7. You attend a site induction – can be one session or a training course
  8. You start volunteering!
