Chairwoman Recruitment

Solace Women’s Aid is a London based charity working primarily with women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence. The organisation has grown significantly over the last few years and we are looking to recruit a talented Chairwoman to guide the Board of Trustees in maintaining a healthy and active governance function.

Strong candidates will demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Previous board experience in the charitable sector, especially experience of providing firm strategic direction and setting overall policy
  • Understanding of work in the Violence Against Women and Girls sector
  • Ability to network with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret and draw insights from documents such as operational updates, audit performance and financial reporting in order to evaluate performance against targets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Sensitivity and discretion in dealing with staff and service user issues

Successful candidates will be required to:

  • Chair 4 board meetings and two away days each year
  • Participate on a board sub committee
  • Conduct regular supervisions with the Chief Executive Officer of Solace
  • Respond as-needed in between regular Board business to requests from Solace
  • Attend periodic staff functions as requested
  • Ensure smooth operation of Trustees

Trustees can claim reasonable out-of-pocket and travel expenses but are not otherwise remunerated.

We are seeking candidates with a wide range of experience and diverse backgrounds. In particular, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate clinical expertise.

Co-Facilitator Rape Crisis Evening Support Group for Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans women Survivors

Solace Women’s Aid are recruiting to our North London Rape Crisis Service. We are looking for a Co-Facilitator for our monthly evening support group for Lesbian, Bi and Trans women survivors of Sexual Violence.

North London Rape Crisis service is a Specialist Sexual Violence Service that supports women who have been affected by sexual violence including childhood sexual abuse. We are a member of Rape Crisis England and Wales and the Ascent Counselling Consortium in London.

We work in a women- centred way offering short and long term counselling and a range of groups in order to empower women to heal and recover from the trauma of sexual violence. The service is delivered across 7 North London Boroughs.

Job details:

You will co-facilitate a monthly evening support group from an empowerment perspective using the person centred approach and adhere to the BACP code of practice. You will be paid £25 per hour, be provided with clinical supervision and have access to our in-house Counselling CPD Program.

We particularly welcome applications from women who identify as Lesbian due to underrepresentation in our counselling team.

Salary: £25 per hour

Hours: 2 hours per month

Contract: Fixed term until 31st March 2016

We are now recruiting for an experienced Immigration Solicitor or Immigration Advice Caseworker to join our highly motivated and committed team.

You will be leading on Solace’s response to women experiencing domestic/sexual abuse who also have an insecure immigration status and providing high quality immigration advice to our clients.

You will have at least OISC Level 2 accreditation and a solid knowledge of immigration law and how it affects women experiencing domestic/sexual abuse. You will also be able to work sensitively and in a non-judgmental manner with vulnerable clients.

Salary: £30, 648 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Our Therapeutic Unit coordinates referrals for the Ascent counselling project supporting women who have experienced or are living with domestic violence.

We are looking for a clinical administrator to support the therapeutic team, act as a first point of contact to the service, cover the duty line, identify client risk, process referrals, support with the administration of the counselling services and supervise an administration assistant and volunteers.

You will have excellent IT skills and be able to communicate effectively both on a verbal and written level. Ability to multi-task quickly and effectively is essential.

This is a full time position 37.5 hours per week based in our Islington Offices.

Salary: £21, 966 per annum

You will be responsible for leading a small staff team across two refuges.
