Chairwoman Recruitment

Solace Women’s Aid is a London based charity working primarily with women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence. The organisation has grown significantly over the last few years and we are looking to recruit a talented Chairwoman to guide the Board of Trustees in maintaining a healthy and active governance function.

Strong candidates will demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Previous board experience in the charitable sector, especially experience of providing firm strategic direction and setting overall policy
  • Understanding of work in the Violence Against Women and Girls sector
  • Ability to network with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret and draw insights from documents such as operational updates, audit performance and financial reporting in order to evaluate performance against targets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Sensitivity and discretion in dealing with staff and service user issues

Successful candidates will be required to:

  • Chair 4 board meetings and two away days each year
  • Participate on a board sub committee
  • Conduct regular supervisions with the Chief Executive Officer of Solace
  • Respond as-needed in between regular Board business to requests from Solace
  • Attend periodic staff functions as requested
  • Ensure smooth operation of Trustees

Trustees can claim reasonable out-of-pocket and travel expenses but are not otherwise remunerated.

Co-Facilitator Rape Crisis Evening Support Group for Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans women Survivors

Solace Women’s Aid are recruiting to our North London Rape Crisis Service. We are looking for a Co-Facilitator for our monthly evening support group for Lesbian, Bi and Trans women survivors of Sexual Violence.

North London Rape Crisis service is a Specialist Sexual Violence Service that supports women who have been affected by sexual violence including childhood sexual abuse. We are a member of Rape Crisis England and Wales and the Ascent Counselling Consortium in London.

We work in a women- centred way offering short and long term counselling and a range of groups in order to empower women to heal and recover from the trauma of sexual violence. The service is delivered across 7 North London Boroughs.

Job details:

You will co-facilitate a monthly evening support group from an empowerment perspective using the person centred approach and adhere to the BACP code of practice. You will be paid £25 per hour, be provided with clinical supervision and have access to our in-house Counselling CPD Program.

We particularly welcome applications from women who identify as Lesbian due to underrepresentation in our counselling team.

Salary: £25 per hour

Hours: 2 hours per month

Contract: Fixed term until 31st March 2016

IRIS Advocate Educator

Solace Women’s Aid is delighted to be working in close partnership with the London Borough of Southwark to introduce the IRIS project to GP surgeries in the Borough. We are now seeking an Advocate/Educator to take this project forward.

IRIS improves the quality of care given by GP surgeries to those experiencing domestic violence. It is a general practice based domestic violence training support and referral programme that has been evaluated in a randomised controlled trial. The post is to provide advocacy for patients, training to general practice teams and on-going support for health professionals. You will also have responsibility for ensuring delivery of the IRIS model to general practices and managing relationships with partnership practices.

We’re looking for a highly organised and self-motivated woman who are passionate about ending gender-based violence. You’ll have a “can-do‟ approach and demonstrable commitment to Solace’s feminist approach to supporting women and their children to be safer. You will receive training and support for this role.

Salary: £25, 770 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Sessional Children’s Playworkers

Solace Women’s Aid is dedicated to providing a full range of services for women and their children, enabling them to live lives free from domestic violence.

We are looking for 2 Sessional Children’s Playworkers to work in Barnet.

  • To deliver when needed a sessional programme of activity and play including, baby groups ,toddler groups, after school, and holiday outings in accordance with the needs of children in the refuge between the ages of 0 -16yrs.
  • To maintain a safe, creative and stimulating environment for children’s activities and play where every child feels welcome and is considered important.
  • To ensure health and safety and child protection issues are raised with Family Support Worker.

All the families in our refuges have experienced trauma and loss due to domestic violence and have been forced to leave their homes. You will have a good understanding of the impact of trauma and loss on children of different ages and experience of working with children and their mother’s/carer’s in a multi racial setting.

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent is desirable to this post.

Salary: £10 per hour

Hours: 12 hours per week

Location: Barnet
