Our Therapeutic Unit coordinates referrals for the Waltham Forest Counselling Project, supporting women who have experienced or are living with domestic and/or sexual violence.

We are looking for an experienced Counsellor to deliver therapeutic sessions for women in the borough of Waltham Forest. You must be registered with either BACP or UKCP and accredited or working towards accreditation.  Clinical supervision and CPD will be provided.

You will need to demonstrate an excellent understanding of VAWG (violence against women and girls) and the issues women face, along with evidence of working with women and an understanding of their needs. Excellent communication and empathy skills are paramount.  An ability to think on your feet and adapt to the needs of the client in terms of therapeutic and clinical risk intervention.

This is a self-employed position. Variable sessions, up to 1 day per week for approximately 6-9 months. There may be the possibility of additional therapeutic work in other boroughs of London.

You will need a thorough understanding of the dynamics and effects of domestic and sexual violence and have practical experience of supporting service users with mental health concerns and /or who use substances problematically and/or dual diagnosis.

You will have the skills to design and deliver group work to a diverse group of service users. Preferably with a minimum of two year’s experience of working in a group worker position with this or a similar client group.

To meet the demands of this role you will have extensive experience in facilitating groups with service users who have substance use and/or dual diagnosis support needs. Ideally using a therapeutic basis for program design and implementation including monitoring, evaluation and contribution to reports.

This role will require working occasional Saturdays.

We work with over 8,500 survivors of violence each year and operate services ranging from advice and emergency refuge accommodation, to longer term therapeutic support such as counselling and arts therapies for children. Given the importance of this service, the Board of trustees is looking to recruit a talented new member to complement the skills and expertise of the existing Board. If you are at risk, it's vital you remember to delete any information from the computer that could compromise your safety.
