Nahar Choudhury, CEO of Solace: “It is deeply disturbing that repeated failings by the Metropolitan Police allowed Levy — a convicted sexual offender — to escalate his violence against women, but sadly, it does not come as a surprise. For far too long, survivors have told us that they have been dismissed, disbelieved and failed by the Met, leaving them, and other women, without the support and protection they need.
In the three and a half years since the Casey Review we have heard that the Met is working to improve standards within the force, yet cases like this emphasise the need for greater transparency about what is actually changing, and whether those changes are making women safer.
We agree with the Victims’ Commissioner that these inadequate police responses must be fully scrutinised and the misogynistic culture which has allowed these systemic failings to persist must be urgently stamped out.”
