The government has announced the ban of pornography depicting strangulation in England and Wales.
Nahar Choudhury, chief executive of Solace, said: “Pornography that depicts women being harmed causes violence against women and girls. By normalising acts such as strangulation, suffocation and other forms of sexual violence, this content reinforces dangerous attitudes and distorts expectations of healthy relationships. It contributes to a culture in which violence against women and girls is minimised, excused or actively sought out.
These new laws are an important step towards challenging current attitudes and supporting preventative measures among young people.”
