A Metropolitan Police detective, who was raped by fellow officer PC David Carrick, has said Scotland Yard’s handling of her case was “like being raped all over again”.
Rebecca Goshawk, Director of Business Development at Solace, said: “The Met’s continued mishandling of sexual violence cases is perpetuating violence against women and girls and survivors deserve better.
“We know from our work with women that Detective Constable Linda Williams’s re-traumatisation by police is not unique.
“Survivors of sexual abuse frequently tell us they are dismissed, disbelieved and failed by the Met. Not only does this leave those survivors without the protection and support they need, it also discourages other women from reporting to the police in the first place.”
