Whatever the score, women need support

It’s kick-off time: blow the whistle on domestic abuse.

As the World Cup begins, millions will come together to watch the game.

Reports show that domestic abuse can rise by 38% when the England men’s team loses at a major tournament*. At Solace, we find that figure unacceptable, and a stark reminder of why our work matters.

Let’s be clear, football does not cause abuse: the behaviour and actions of abusers cause domestic abuse. This behaviour can be exacerbated, however, by the heightened emotions, alcohol consumption and more that surrounds major tournaments.

Solace supports thousands of women and children each year with refuge, advice, advocacy, and specialist support to help them rebuild their lives safely. Help us reach as many women as possible during a time when more support is needed.

Win or lose, survivors need support.
